02/03/08 - Unit Updates

Gebrüders

Once again another FIG has come and gone, and we are left in the aftermath of a week of good times, and Komradschaft. When some of us couldn't make it for one reason or another we had all of our members in our thoughts, and prayers. This year some new things were seen such as The Memorial Ceramony for the German War Dead, and Missing. To the best of our knowledge we are the first units to do this cermony in this country, and for that all of us should be very proud in what we accomplished! Just like the men we protray we are keeping the standard of what it means to be men of Die Liedstandarte. I can not stress how improtant this is, since these men have us to reply on to keep their memory alive.

As with the new things the old ones were ever present and quite enjoyful. Seeing of old friends from parts far from our own were with us, and their time with us makes it all the more special. Our honored advisor was there once again and his cherrfulness, and knowledge make our Kaserne all the more unique. For this I need to say Vielen Danke to Gerd, and we look forward to seeing him once again next year. On a more somber note one of our Komrads plans to take some time off, and enjoy his time with loved ones. While he may not be in the field of every tactical in person his guidance, and wisdom will be and for that this unit and KG Sonnenwende will have a strong presence for a very long time to come. Sepp enjoy your well deserved time off, and please come back soon.

Komraden

For those of you that went to this past weekend's Caen event I am sure you are still recovering from that incredible event! I would like to thank the members of Erste Zug for throwing this event, and in my ten years of reenacting I can honestly say that this event was the most changeling event I ever went to. All of us have our own personal favorite memories of this event, but rest assured we will be back, since I have recieved offical word that our unit is invited to all future events at this site! Our unit was praised on it's tactics, and aggression by the event hosts, and I must compliment all of you on the job you that you did at this event. By bbeing invited to these total emersion events will give you the feeling of what it was really like back then to a small degree, and makes our life in the real world all the more sweeter. We will be participating in one more event before the holiday season, and then it will be the week long event at F.I.G.

Brüders

I would like to thank all of you that attended our annual training event. For those that couldn't make it we have a new announcement / surprise ! We have a new permanent training facility with many features. They are:

- Over 100 acres to practice maneuvers or set up a small tactical
- An extensive firing range which can handle any type of small caliber weapon (including MGs)
- A period block house where we can have classes, sleep in, and hold meeting ( just like a clubhouse)......
-  The area has running water, and port a johns there on a permanent basis

This training area is open for use for all members of our unit, and KG Sonnenwende. It is our intention to hold annual training events ( 1-2 times a year) at this facility. The property owner has embraced us and is looking forward to seeing us back soon. A big round of thanks needs to go out to Matt N. and Todd B. for setting this up for us.

At this past training event we cover many important things , and we wound up learning just as much as we had fun. The courses we went over were:
           - Impression authenticity
          -  Correct German phrases, and terms for individual impressions
          -  Effective combat tactics  ( Historical , and improvised reenacting tactics)
          - Hand signals, and Whistle commands
          -  Weapons familiarization classes on numerous weapons

In between all the classes, and handouts to learn we managed to have tons of fun, and this was never more obvious than on the gun range. The highlight of the range was seeing KG members aiming at some "fun targets", ( another big thanks to member Kyle O) and enjoying each other company. The KG meal was a big success, and a night of Komradschaft and laughter was enjoyed by all. I want to thank you our KG Brüders for making to this special event. At this event we we had a unit meeting and we discussed such topics as future events, and how we as a unit can improve, and try to be the best possible unit we can be. I think we are taking big step in the right direction. Our next event will be Odessa, and this event will be a "hard Core" event, so please check your emails for the information upcoming about this event.

I would like to congratulate all of you on your fine performance at the Reading Air Show. While the heat, and rain were once again a difficult foes we all made the best of it, and showed everyone that came to the show what it means to be a quality German reenacting unit! Our hats need to go off to Ron R. and Chris G. for bringing the horses, and showing a very unique aspect of the hobby which is so often overlooked. With this aspect was débuted no one can over look our other fine attributes and for that we all deserve a round of applause. While there is always room for improvement we have made progress from last year and for that I thank you.
I would also like to take this time to officially welcome our newest members to our unit:

Matt N.
Rich S.
Jake O'B
George S. (Sr.)
George S. (Jr.)
Bill P. ( a old and dear friend of the unit)
Drew Z. ( an older and dear friend to the unit)

While some of you are new to this hobby , some of you have a past history and we would like to welcome you to the brotherhood of our unit. In some sobering news we will be missing some of our soldaten since they will be deployed soon to an area were they will be in constant danger since they are part of our military. I want to thank them personally for serving our great country, and protecting our freedoms. Remember while you may be away from our unit you are not forgotten and please keep in touch since we will be keeping an eye on you as much as possible.

Our upcoming Unit / KG training event looks to be growing and improving over last year. This year we will be incorporating more classes on a varying degree of subjects, and the standard live fire shoot. We also plan to have this as a camp out event, and to promote Komradschaft we plan on have some period meals and entertainment. This training event will be a starting point for this upcoming year since we have once again been invited to some pretty exclusive and hard events. We need to be prepared for this year since it will definitely separate the wheat from the chaff. Until this training event take this time off to enjoy yourself, your family, and relax in the down time, since we will soon be An Der Front!

Kameraden!

We all know there has to be a beginning. Let's start with life itself. We always try to make the best of it, but there is always something, or someone screwing it up for us, we call it war. We do reenact war, and I am so proud to have meet you men that protray the German Soldat, men that recognize good from evil.

I remember the first time I meet all of you. A Frundsberg unit and a Hohenstaufen unit, as well as others. I was pleased to see that, and that you emerged later into the II. SS Panzer Korps which it was in 1944. Unfortunatley, the II. SS Panzer Korps didn't last too long. Well in WW II it only lasted from Jan.1943 to May 1945, for different reasons, but they made their mark in History. Things do happen for the better? We know the Frundsberg unit on the East Coast divided, and so did the II. SS Panzer Korps.

Gerd found refuge with the then 12th.SS Hitlerjunged Aufkl - Abt.12

SS-Unterscharfuhrer Richard Heßler did likewise, and emerged as a good organizer and leader by the now 1.L.SS.A.H 11.Kp III (gep.) PG Regt.2 unit. By now I believe you are a unit of about 18 soldaten, and if my spies report correctly are associated member of KG Sonnenwende. Perhaps by now you are full pleged members of Sonnewende.

We may be seperated by about 2000 miles, but my thoughts are with all of you on the East Coast, and I wished I was closer. With your good will and determination I know you will be an asset to Kampfgrüppe Sonnewende, an elite force in it's own right. I SALUTE YOU !

Back to the beginning. Your unit I believe, has outgrown the infant shoes, and is now running and making giant steps. This is a unsoilicited message for your units first dispatch.

Well Done and Good Luck.

We are so proud to be a part of this organization, and we look forward to fighting next to our Kampf Grüppe Brüers. There is no looking back ....

Vom der Zugfuhrer

Begrüßung Kameraden

Well It is almost one year since the formation of our unit and I would like to congratulate you all on the effort, and your desire to make this unit happen. While we had some trials by fire early on we managed to come through them, and advance onto our next objectives and we did this in truest sense of esprit de corps. Our unit is growing and will continue to grow as long as we are true to our unit and ourseleves, and keep the traditions of Die Leibstandarte alive!

This year has been special to me since I have seen this unit invited to some very elite Living Hisotry Events, and Tacticals. For a new unit to be allowed to attend these events shows how much we have progressed in a short time, and how effective we are in battle! Just as the Original bodyguards we are shedding the nicknames of "Asphalt Soldiers" and proving how good we really are! The latest event was the Newville, Pa event and to participate in such a difficult event among such fine German units was indeed an honor! Our participation with KG Sonnenwende at this event made the reality of combined specialized units happen, and for this I am grateful to our brueder! We will be attending the Federation F.I.G event shortly and we will be part of another Hollowed Tradition... The Grosser Zapfenstreich. Being a part of this is truly another honor not only for our unit but for each one individually. By taking part of this you keep the memory, and honor of the Veterans of the Wehrmacht and Waffen SS alive!

As for the future this unit it can only go as high as we want it to and as long as we hold to honor of the men we portray, and remember the motto Meine Ehre Heißt Treue we will not falter.
